Reunion

Below is Eric Rothschild's excellent letter to the editor of the Scarsdale Inquirer, describing the reunion and published on October 22, 2004:
To the Editor:
The Scarsdale High School Class of 1954 completed a magical weekend on Oct. 2. Two thirds of the living graduates of our class returned to Scarsdale for our 50th reunion. On Friday morning, 40 of us were greeted at the high school by Bob Draper, a science teacher, who literally went out of his way to make us feel at home. We visited classes in almost every discipline. That afternoon, I heard the same refrain from all my classmates. They were delighted that SHS was still a great high school.
The next. day, well over a hundred of us gathered again at the high school. In a warm, informal session in the cafeteria, the principal, John Klemme, spoke briefly and, along with nine student volunteers led by Katie Loeb, answered some searching questions. Finally, the students led all of us on a hike to see the new library, the new gymnasium and the new wing. Once again, the reports by my friends in the class were unanimously positive. They loved the energy of the students and were stunned by the quality of the new facilities.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning were times of laughter and reflection. We knew we would never all be together again. What each of us will carry home are memories of a special moment in our lives, made extra special by the students, teachers and administrators of Scarsdale High School.
